Alcudia – 5 Reasons to Choose Mallorca’s Beach Paradise
*Article contains affiliate linksAlcudia is known for its beautiful beaches, historic old town and family-friendly atmosphere. It is located in the north of Mallorca and attracts tourists with its crystal clear waters, well-preserved medieval walls and lively port area. In Alcudia, you can enjoy culture, nature and beach holidays.
We traveled to Alcudia in September 2024 during our holiday in Mallorca for a few days to celebrate my birthday. This was my second visit to this cozy beach town, the first time was exactly ten years ago for my birthday party. Therefore, we thought it was a fun idea to come again, now that we happened to be on the island anyway.
Alcudia can be easily reached by bus from Palma, the capital of Mallorca, and the journey does not take long. The island has cheap, good and efficient bus connections, which means that renting your own car is not mandatory. However, if touring the island in your own car and the freedom of no schedule appeals to you, find out more about car rental in Mallorca here.
5 reasons to choose Alcudia
Gorgeous beaches and crystal clear waterThe beaches of Alcudia are known for their fine white sand and turquoise waters. Alcudia Beach and Playa de Muro are particularly popular with families with children due to their shallow and safe waters. This several kilometers long coastline also offers the opportunity to find your own peace and privacy. Ten years ago, my favorite thing about our trip to Alcudia was long evening walks by myself along the beach, and I still don’t wish change my opinion. The highlight of Alcudia is still this beach.
Historic old townAlcudia’s old town is one of the best-preserved medieval areas in Mallorca. The narrow cobblestone streets, old city walls and idyllic cafes make the area the perfect place for a relaxing stroll. Although Alcudia is popular with tourists, there is plenty of space to breathe in peace and quiet on the streets of the old town. We wandered around aimlessly, stopped to explore the boutiques and enjoyed a delicious, inexpensive lunch at a local café. This café was found on the side, and not in the old town square, where “everyone else” stayed. We were able to enjoy our lunch in peace and, above all, at affordable local prices, as we were the only tourists in the café. This suited us very well.
Diverse activities and nature experiencesThe area around Alcudia offers great opportunities for outdoor activities and adventure. You can hike in the scenic areas, cycle along the coast or explore the S’Albufera Natural Park, which is particularly popular with birdwatchers. You can also rent a bike or electric scooter here and explore the places on your own at a slightly more leisurely pace. Alcudia has a good mix of local and touristy activities, so it’s not difficult to find services aimed at tourists.

Delicious food cultureIn Alcudia you can enjoy both traditional Mallorcan food and fresh seafood. The restaurants in the old town and the port area offer local delicacies such as paella, tapas and ensaimada. In honor of my birthday, we had decided to enjoy delicious long dinners on both nights.
We found great restaurants through the TheFork app and even with a 50% discount. This free app is a great way to find and book restaurants when you travel and get quality dinners for up to half the price. Download TheFork and use my code “8245F67D” to get 1000 Yums points immediately. The points can be used to pay for your restaurant visits.
Nearby great day trip destinationsFrom Alcudia it is easy to make day trips to other wonderful places in the area. For example, the Cap de Formentor peninsula offers breathtaking scenery, and the charming village of Pollensa is only a short drive away. Like Palma, you can also take a bus from Alcudia to the mountain village of Sóller, which I can warmly recommend as a day trip destination. You can easily travel between Palma and Alcudia by local bus, as well as to Mallorca airport.
Unfortunately, we only had a couple of days in Alcudia, and we didn’t have time to explore the surrounding areas of Alcudia. I would like to say again that Mallorca has so many wonderful places that a week is simply not enough to see them all. At least not if you don’t want to rush from place to place and especially not without a rental car. The island also has many great tours and guided activities, so I recommend checking out Mallorca’s tour options in advance.
WHERE TO STAY?Alcudia has a wide range of accommodation options, both in terms of quality and price. The old town offers idyllic boutique hotels, the harbour area is full of different types of accommodation and there is a long stretch of large hotels popular with travel agencies along the coastline, from the more modest to the luxurious five-star.
We stayed for a couple of nights at the four-star Garden Saladina Adults Only**** bungalow hotel, a five-minute walk from the beach. The hotel was comfortable and we were upgraded to a larger bungalow suite for my birthday. We relaxed in the large pool area with sparkling wine and fruit on my birthday and although we are usually more adventurous and budget-minded travellers who are interested in local things, this was a fun change. A big thank you to the really friendly hotel staff, who were absolutely top notch.
We will probably not return to Alcudia on our next trip to Mallorca, but we will definitely visit the surrounding areas. Alcudia is a beautiful and cozy holiday destination, but we prefer the local hustle and bustle and diversity of the capital Palma. However, it was wonderful to experience the same streets and this beautiful beach that I fell in love with ten years ago. Overall, our one-week birthday trip to Mallorca was very successful and interesting, with plenty of new and old things and unforgettable moments.
Alcudia is a perfect destination for beach vacationers, culture lovers and active adventurers alike. Have you already been to Alcudia or could it be your next destination? Share your thoughts, experiences and tips in the comments! 🙂<3: Tiina Johanna

Palma de Mallorca: 7 reasons to fall in love with the most charming city in the Mediterranean
*Arcticle contains affiliate links
Palma de Mallorca, the capital of Mallorca, is the perfect combination of historical charm, natural beauty and modern convenience. This city completely captured our hearts – and no wonder! Palma’s versatility makes it an ideal holiday destination for beach holidaymakers, culture seekers and foodies alike. I first visited Palma ten years ago on a day trip and fell in love with the city so much that I swore I would come back again. Now I did and my love for it continued. I swore again, that I would come back again.
Here are 7 reasons why you too should fall in love with this Mediterranean treasure:1. La Seu Cathedral: The heart and soul of Palma
The first reason can be found right by the sea: Palma’s iconic La Seu Cathedral. This Gothic masterpiece is an impressive sight both from the outside and inside. The interior of the church features soaring vaults and colorful stained glass windows that shine beautifully in the sunlight. Gaudí’s stunning modernist additions add to the cathedral’s unique charm. The setting of the cathedral, with the sea sparkling in the background, is especially unforgettable. For us, this experience was one of the highlights of our trip. There is a queue here always, so I recommend getting skip-the-line entry to the cathedral in advance here.

2. TURQUOISE SEA VIEWS AND MAGICAL BEACH DAYSPalma would not be complete without its beautiful beaches. One of our most unforgettable days was a day at the beach on Palma’s white sandy beach, Palma Beach. The turquoise sea, clear sky and perfect softness of the sand created the perfect beach atmosphere and allowed us to forget our everyday worries and anxieties. A day at the beach was exactly the relaxation you need on holiday – and the sea was so invitingly clear that it felt almost impossible to get out of the water. The long beach boulevard was a great place to walk and admire the scenery – the city on one side and the sea on the other. Pretty nice, right?
3. NARROW STREETS OF THE OLD TOWN AND ITS CHARMING BOUTIQUESPalma’s old town is like stepping back in time. Its winding alleys, beautiful stone houses and small boutiques are calling you to explore. We spent several hours walking these historic streets, admiring hidden courtyards and stopping in at small boutiques and cafes. The atmosphere of the area is charming and authentic, and somehow full of surprises – around every corner there is a new beautiful building or view. I love wandering around old parts of the city and getting lost in their depths and vibe! A fun walking tour with a local guide is a great way to get to know Palma’s old town, so book a tour here for your next trip.

4. A LOT OF HISTORY AND CULTUREPalma is full of history. In the city you can explore the Banys Àrabs, walk along the historic walls or visit the Bellver Castle, which offers stunning views over the city and the sea. Past and present merge harmoniously in Palma, making the city a fascinating destination for culture lovers. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to see everything, so here’s another reason to come back. Again. Discover the sights of Palma de Mallorca easily and conveniently, on foot like we did or on the Hop on Hop off bus!

5. DELICIOUS FOOD AND AMAZING RESTAURANTSPalma is a foodie’s dream destination. The city’s restaurant offerings range from authentic tapas to modern fine dining experiences. Dinners on the charming terraces of the old town are an experience you won’t forget. We feasted at several different restaurants and cafes during our trip, but my personal favorite was definitely the Gaudi Terraza Cafe in the old town. I recommend booking a table in advance via the Fork App, as you can get up to 50% off here and at many other restaurants (discounts and dates vary). Use my code “8245F67D” and you’ll get 100 Yums discount points to redeem on the app!
6. SHOPPING FOR EVERYONEPalma combines modern shops with local artisan boutiques. In the old town, small designer stores and unique boutiques invite you to explore, while the Passeig des Born boulevard offers luxury brands and stylish cafes. We didn’t spend a lot of time shopping and browsing clothing stores this time, and we only took one pair of long pants with us on the whole trip. Maybe too practical and budget-friendly – Well, that’s how it turned out. This time we invested more in good food and experiences, but Palma is full of great shopping opportunities for those who want it.
7. PALMA OFFERS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONEPalma is not just one thing – it is everything. The city is historic, trendy, relaxing and vibrant at the same time. In addition to beach days and sightseeing, you can spend your time walking in beautiful parks or cycling along the coastal path. The appeal of Palma lies in its ability to offer something for everyone, at least in my opinion a perfect ten!
PALMA – THE CITY WHERE A WEEK IS NOT ENOUGHOur experience in Palma was full of beauty, diversity and a relaxed atmosphere. The city seems to offer something new with every visit, and after our week-long holiday we felt like we hadn’t seen it all. Not yet! Palma is definitely a city you want to return to – again and again.
If you are looking for a destination that combines everything you could want from a perfect holiday, Palma de Mallorca is the place for you. It combines sun and beaches with interesting cities. Go and experience it for yourself and fall in love with this most charming city in the Mediterranean!
